Safety Standards and Compliance

McKinnon Quarries & Civil has an Integrate Management System (IMS) put in place that has been revised and upgraded over the years to help us stay compliant with the safety code system.


This IMS is fully audited every year by a third party to ensure it complies with the Civil Construction Federations code.


We are pre-qualified for civil works with the Victorian Electrical Distribution Network (VEDN) and VicRoads and pre-qualified for traffic management for VicRoads.

Company Policy

Deliver our projects to clients on time and within budget to satisfy the quality expectations of the client.


Maintain a level of customer focus with the public that the clients and authorities would be expected to provide themselves.

Provide evidence when requested that all works have been constructed in accordance with the contract specified requirements.


Employ toolbox meeting strategy with employees and the client with the aim of working safely and without harming the environment. Employ regular safety work methods.


Provide professional advice when necessary to ensure that our company satisfies the legal requirements of the Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality Protection Acts and other legislation or legal requirements covering the projects we work on.

  • Have zero reportable environmental breaches. Not to increase any form of pollution in the vicinity of the project. Work with the client to improve the environmental integrity of the area we are working in, wherever possible.
  • Ensure our suppliers and subcontractors operate with the same objectives in mind.
  • Strive for continuous improvement of service delivery through reviews and measurement of defect notices.

Safety

Workplace safety can only be ensured and achieved through the collective efforts of both the management and its employees. Management provides a safe workplace and safe work procedures for employees to adhere.


All employees have to adopt a positive attitude towards safety and work within the companies’ procedures and instructions. The company policies and instructions as outlined in our manual and must be read and practically applied throughout each working day. 


All employees must be an active part of their respective site and depot safety committees. Regular toolbox meetings must be conducted and all managers and employees are encouraged to have a say in the safety concerns of the worksites and depots.

Environment

Protecting the environment is our responsibility. Our company policy clearly states that we must minimise the risk to the environment from any of our work activities at all times.


For improvements in the environment, we often take into consideration issues that are otherwise not given much importance. 


All environmental breaches must be minimised in order to protect the environment and the reputation of the company.


Environmental protection policies include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Minimising stripping and erosion
  • Recycling and salvaging of construction material
  • Salvaging and re-using topsoil
  • Minimising waste and reworking of activities
